The Ken & Linda Walker Scholarship FUND

We were grateful to support the LIMB CARE FOUNDATION’S plan for a KID'S OUTREACH CAMP & RESEARCH. It was important for the Foundation to entice students to consider entering the prosthetics and encourage research. The well-organized Prosthetic Summer Day Camp in 2023 reached 53+ excited students, and was able to provide two students advanced in their studies with $500 scholarships.

The LIMB CARE FOUNDATION’S slogan "A helping hand for every step forward" says it all. Prosthetic Summer Day Camp was the 1st step to Assist young people passionate to achieve prosthetic & orthotic research education to improve amputee’s patient outcomes. The 2nd step is establishment of a scholarship fund to assist students to complete education necessary.

2023

Sam Silverman

Sports have been an essential part of my life since I was a kid, competing in every track and field event I could. I attended the Invictus Games in 2017—an international sports event for wounded soldiers and veterans. This is how I found out about orthotics and prosthetics, which solidified that working to help people with disabilities lead healthy and independent lives was the perfect career choice. While still a student, I am eager to connect with and support people with disabilities, inside and outside the clinic’s walls. I take pride in advocating for others and volunteering in adaptive sports programs to help facilitate healing through recreation and community. I hope to combine my clinical and community work by making adaptive sports a crucial part of my career. I enjoy all the hands-on opportunities and research projects that my graduate program offers me. I hope to be a generalist practitioner so that I can see all kinds of patients. I feel that no case is too rare, complex, or difficult to take on with care; and that we should rely on studies and evidence-based practices for the best results. That is why post-graduation, I am most excited to pursue a degree in clinical research or adaptive sports. I hope to establish strong relationships with patients and give back to the disabled community as much as possible.
